Alzheimer Group Respite Care

Alzheimer's Group Respite is provided at the Chesterfield Senior Center two days per week 3 hours per day. We plan activities for these participants based on things that the client may have done in years passed.

Alzheimer's In-Home Respite can be provided allowing a caregiver a break from his or her duties, by allowing someone to come into the home and stay with the client.

Clients who are interested in, or are enrolling in, the Alzheimer's program with CCCOA are invited to spend about half a day with the Program Coordinator. During this time, the client and family members will be familiarized with the services of the program. Necessary paperwork is started, CCCOA employees and volunteers in the program are listed, volunteers are introduced (when possible) and time is spent with the client to understand what types of activities the client would be interested in. For instance, if the client had been an active farmer, there is a small garden for them to tend during the summer.

Clients in this program are treated to a 'Day Out' on Tuesday and Thursday. Clients are given the opportunity to choose the activity for themselves. In this way, Alzheimer's clients are given a bit of control in their lives and are reassured of guidance and companionship.

CCCOA provides transportation to and from the location chosen.
