Education and Recreation

Includes adult education, arts and crafts, bingo, current events, lectures, audio-visual aids, tours, social functions, periodicals, and demonstrations on a scheduled basis.


The Chesterfield County Council on Aging recognizes that todays seniors are not only alive but vital people. To help ensure they remain so, we have programs to foster the educational and recreational activities of our clients. These activites include adult education, arts and crafts, bingo, current events, lectures, audio-visual aids, tours, social functions, periodicals, and demonstrations on a scheduled basis.


Educational Services

Literature:

Informational literature of special importance to our clients is made available at the Congregate Meals, at least once a month. This literature covers a wide range of topics.


Audio-Visual Aids:

Audio-Visual Aids are provided in the form of videotaped programs, directed at both clients and their caregivers, describing Alzheimer's, How-To Videos for elder care, and many other topics.


Periodicals:

Periodicals (magazines and newspapers) are available to our clients.


Lectures:

Guest lecturers are scheduled during the Congregate Meals and for special events. Speakers will discuss topics relevant to elder care, transportation issues, and other themes relevant to our clients.


Current Events:

Current events topics are discussed in group sessions to keep clients up to date on what's happening in Chesterfield County, South Carolina, the U.S. and the world.


Recreational Services

Arts and Crafts:

Arts and Crafts projects are conducted to allow our clients to express their creativity.


Bingo:

As one of the most popular social games known to man, bingo has become a staple in the recreational resources of the CCCOA.


Tours:

Day and Overnight Tours originate from the Nutrition Sites of Pageland, Chesterfield and Cheraw.


Social Functions:

From monthly birthday parties at the Nutrition Sites to Grandparent Appreciation Day, social functions allow our clients to involve their families and friends in their activities!
