Meal Services

Chesterfield County Council on Aging Meal Services include a Congregate Meal, served daily at three nutrition sites; Home Delivered meals, arriving daily; and a Frozen Meals program, delivered once a week.

Congregate meals are provided at three nutrition sites in Chesterfield County. These sites are in Chesterfield, Cheraw and Pageland. These sites are open 4 hours per day, 5 days per week providing activities and a nutritionally balanced meal to participants. Activities include speakers with educational information, exercise, games, social time, seasonal parties and group birthday recognition. The availability will depend on budgeted number of meals for the year. Sometimes we may have a waiting list for this service.

Transportation may be provided for those clients needing assistance. Not just a hot lunch, but also an entertaining, informative and fun environment!

Health Promotion is provided by having regular blood pressure checks, weight checks, and viewing of educational health related videotapes.

Home Delivered Meals are provided to clients from three nutrition sites in Chesterfield County. These sites are in Chesterfield, Cheraw and Pageland. Meals are available five days per week to clients. Priority will be given to clients who are 75 years of age and older, who have lost 3 or more activities of daily living (ADL) or instrumental activities of daily living (IADL). The availability will depend on budgeted number of meals for the year. Sometimes we may have a waiting list for this service. Availability of this service will depend on several issues, the main issue being client location. Due to state regulations we are unable deliver meals to all areas of the county.

(ADLs are walking/mobility, eating, transferring, dressing, bathing, and incontinence. IADLs are preparing meals, light housekeeping, heavy housekeeping, telephone use, money management, shopping, managing medications.)

The meals are delivered by the same drivers that transport clients to the Congregate Meals. The driver will also spend a few minutes chatting with the client, checking to make sure that the client is doing well.

Frozen Meals are provided by the Council on Aging in the more rural areas with frozen blast meals. Client eligibility for these meals is that the client must have Medicaid and be a client of Community Long Term Care.
